DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office respond to murder-suicide
DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WDEF) – DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a murder-suicide on Friday, December 6.
They received a call from a male residing in Mentone and needed law enforcement at his home due to multiple fatalities.
While dispatchers were coordinating the response, they maintained communication with the caller.
The caller said he had shot his wife and their dogs and expressed intentions to take his own life.
Dispatchers maintained a conversation with him until the call was disconnected.
When deputies arrived, they discovered the bodies of a male, female, and two dogs with apparent gunshot wounds.
After an investigation, it showed that the male had taken the life of the female before ending his own.
The 9th Judicial District Attorney’s office has been notified of the incident.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said about the incident, “I would like to extend my gratitude to the Mentone Police Department, Valley Head Police Department, Ider Police Department, Valley Head Fire Department, and the North Lookout Mountain Fire Protection District for their assistance.
