East Chattanooga home damaged in serious car crash

UPDATE:

We have just been informed that a babysitter and three small children were in the house at the time of this incident.

They were not injured.

Firefighters shored up one area to stabilize the structure, secured the house as much as possible and then turned it over the homeowners.

The driver has been described as elderly.

We have no further information at this time.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Tonight, in East Chattanooga, Green Shift companies were dispatched to the 2600 block of Winterhaven Drive following initial reports of an explosion.

At 6:33 PM, CPD, CFD, and Hamilton County EMS responded to the scene.

Upon arrival at the 2600 block of Waterhaven Drive, responders discovered that a car had crashed into a house, penetrating a portion of a front bedroom and continuing into the garage.

The driver of the vehicle was trapped and required extrication by firefighters using specialized equipment.

The driver was transported to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

A building inspector is there to assess the damage.

The residents were not home at the time of the incident.
