Whitfield County man arrested hours after fatally stabbing woman

WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — A homicide suspect was apprehended early Tuesday morning, hours after a fatal stabbing on Richardson Road claimed the life of a local woman.

Deputies from the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded late Monday night, January 13, 2025 to reports of the stabbing.

Upon arrival, they found the victim with a stab wound.

According to WCSO, she was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, identified as Brian Moree, fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived.

However, Moree was located and arrested early Tuesday morning, January 14, 2025 on Polly Road.

The WCSO credited the quick resolution to the collaborative work of the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit, Department of Natural Resources, Whitfield County Fire Department, and the Whitfield County Coroner’s Office.

“It takes a collective effort to respond to a tragedy like this. In just a few hours, we identified the offender, secured arrest warrants, and tracked him down in the woods to make the arrest.”

Authorities continue to investigate the incident as Moree remains in custody.
