Cherokee Co. Sheriff’s Office warns public of police impersonator on US19
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Nc. (WDEF) — The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has issued a warning after receiving a report of an individual impersonating law enforcement.
According to CCSO, the suspect was seen driving a black Dodge Charger with tinted windows and a tinted tag cover.
Witnesses described the suspect as a white male, smaller in stature, with brown hair.
At the time of the incident, he was wearing a gray and dark blue uniform, along with a vest equipped with a radio and handcuffs.
The impersonation reportedly took place on US19, just south of NC141.
CCSO is reminding residents that official Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies wear standard uniforms featuring a distinctive county patch.
Non-uniformed personnel will have a clearly visible badge and rarely conduct traffic stops.
Law enforcement advises anyone who feels unsafe during a traffic stop to call 911, use their turn signal, and drive to a well-lit area before stopping.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials urge anyone with information regarding the suspect or vehicle to contact the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
