Jason Chen requests new trial after conviction in murder of Jasmine Pace

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The man recently convicted of a November 2022 murder has requested a new trial.

Jason Chen was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of Jasmine Pace in Chattanooga.

During his trial, evidence was presented that he stabbed Pace 60 times, and left her body inside of a suitcase on the side of Suck Creek Road while attempting to cover his tracks both psychically and digitally.

It only took the jury roughly 40 minutes to return a verdict of guilty on premeditated first degree murder and abuse of a corpse.

His attorney, Joshua Weiss, filed a motion arguing that the verdict was not supported by the evidence and that Chen was denied a fair trial.

However, Weiss also filed a motion to withdraw from the case as Chen’s lawyer, saying he has fulfilled his contractual obligation to Chen.

Chen is currently serving his life sentence at the Bledsoe County Correctional Complex.
