Local representative proposes bill to remove sales tax on baby products
HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hixson lawmaker Greg Martin is proposing a bill to help parents in Tennessee.
Martin wants to remove the sales tax on diapers, infant formula and baby wipes.
The representative says helping new parents is also pro-life.
“Being pro-life means advocating for the well-being of both the unborn and the families that bring them into the world. This bill is about helping new parents after birth, making sure they have the resources to provide for their children. I’m committed to advocating for the well-being of Tennessee’s young families, and this legislation is a step toward that.”

He cites a Surgeon General report that says baby formula alone can cost $1,200 in the first year.
And diapers can add another $1,000 to the new baby tab.
Last year, the governor temporarily lifted the sales tax on groceries, but there are no plans to continue that in 2025.
