Hiker finds human remains off mountain in Cherokee County
MURPHY, Nc. (WDEF) — Local law enforcement are investigating the discovery of human remains found off Burrell Mountain Road.
A hiker reported finding a human skull on January 23, 2025.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) conducted a search of the area on January 27.
A second search on February 4, supported by anthropology students from Western Carolina University, led to the recovery of additional remains.
Forensic analysis later confirmed the identity of the deceased as 35-year-old Kamron Peter Rondon.
CCSO noted that Rondon had not been reported missing to law enforcement.
However, the cause of death remains undetermined as the investigation continues.
CCSO is requesting the public’s help in gathering more information about the case.
