Shocking Road Collapse Leaves Key Stretch of Highway 30 Impassable in Polk County
POLK COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A shocking road collapse has left a key stretch of Highway 30 impassable in Polk County
The collapse occurred early this morning near Kimsey Mountain Highway and Sage Hill Road.
“At approximately 4:04 a.m., we received a call about a vehicle accident on Highway 30 near Sage Hill Road. Before emergency responders arrived, local fire and rescue personnel, who had arrived first on the scene, reported seeing part of the road washed out. When officers reached the location, they discovered that at least half of the road had completely fallen down the embankment. Fortunately, the vehicle accident resulted in no injuries” said Sheriff Steve Ross of the Polk County Sheriff’s Department.
Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation has been working on repairs since early Thursday morning.
They have been on the scene since early this morning. As for a time frame on how long repairs will take, we have no idea at this point. That’s up to TDOT, and we’re at their mercy. They always do a great job, and I’m sure they’ll be evaluating the situation and getting the road repaired as quickly as possible, said Sheriff Steve Ross.
