UTC Basketball Downs Rival ETSU 78-71; Extends Winning Streak to Seven

GoMocs- In front of a packed McKenzie Arena, the Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team battled its way to a seventh-straight win after capturing a 78-71 victory over longtime rival ETSU in key Southern Conference action on Saturday night.

 

Chattanooga (19-8, 11-3 SoCon), on its longest win streak since nine to open the 2020-21 season, completed the regular season sweep of ETSU (15-12, 8-6 SoCon) for the second-straight season. The Mocs remain tied atop the SoCon standings with UNCG with four contests remaining on the regular season schedule.

UTC grabbed a 36-30 halftime lead after finishing the opening half with six unanswered points following consecutive threes from Trey Bonham and Honor Huff. After ETSU opened the second half with six unanswered to tie the game 36-36, Chattanooga grabbed and held the lead for the remaining 17:26 of action which featured a 6-of-6 finish from the floor to help keep its distance from the visitors.

The Mocs saw another balanced scoring attack as four different players reached double figures for the second-straight game. Huff led the team with 19 while Bonham (18), Bash Wieland (13) and Frank Champion (13) joined in as Champion once again nearly notched a triple-double, adding eight assists and seven rebounds in the winning effort.
