Healthy Notre Dame Team Has Been Hard to Handle

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Notre Dame girls basketball team captured their district tournament title over the weekend.
Now they’re eyeing two bigger titles in the coming weeks.
A region championship, and who knows, maybe a state championship.

Said head coach Jason Hill:”So from day one this has been a special group.”
But Notre Dame wasn’t healthy day one.
Three key players were out to start the year
Said senior Maliyah Maples:”Yeah a little bit of an unorthodox way to cultivate a basketball season. Have a couple of starters out. Couple of starters come back, but by the time we got it all together, we got rolling.”
The Irish are rolling now because they are healthy, and they’re loaded with depth.
Said Hill:”It’s hard to scout too when you are playing against a team that has a bunch of different weapons and a deep bench. It’s a really big motivator for us going into the post-season to be healthy and have a deep bench.”
Said Maples:”Our amazing coaches they tell us all the time that they have a great problem in the fact that they can sub in three at a time. Four at a time or five at a time.”
Notre Dame has been tough to beat because of their defense.
Said senior Aayanna Baird:”Yeah we might not play good on offense, but we are going to get it back on defense. We’re a defensive team.”
It has been three years since Notre Dame has been to state.
They want to go back this year.
Said Maples:”It’s an elephant in the room. We don’t shy away from it. We know how big of an opportunity this team has.”
Said Hill:”We’re hoping that this could be one of the years that we have a team with the talent and depth to get us back there. Not only get to the state tournament, but we want to make a run.”
