TBI investigating officer involved shooting in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating an officer involved shooting in Monroe County.

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded to the 900 block of Smokey Branch Road to serve warrants.

According to the TBI, the man was wanted for domestic assault and violation of an order of protection.

Upon arrival, deputies were fired upon by the suspect, striking an MCSO patrol unit.

Deputies returned fire, striking the suspect.

He was later airlifted to a local hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

The TBI stated one deputy sustained minor injuries, and was treated at the scene.

This incident is still under investigation by the TBI.
