North River Elementary to enter design phase
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The development of a new Hixson elementary school continues to move forward.
The Hamilton County Commission approved a contract with Franklin Associates to design the future North River Elementary School.
It would replace DuPont, Rivermont, and Alpine Crest Elementary Schools on the Dupont site.
The project has faced some controversy from parents at those schools who do not want to see those smaller schools close.
A county representative, lead engineer Todd Leamon, said Wednesday morning that the size of the school is still in flux.
“The initial document that was prepared and also the contract if you read has a list of a 800, 900, or a 1,000 student population so that all will be dealt with during the initial design phases of this design contract,” said Leamon.
None of the other schools in the county’s school facilities plan have also reached this stage of development.
