24 hour emergency communications exercise announced

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – This annual exercise simulates a widespread electrical outage that causes failure of all official governmental and commercial communications services, including 911 call centers, landline and cellular communications, and radio and television transmissions. This Emergency Communications Exercise is sponsored by the Chattanooga Amateur Radio Club.

The exercise will be starting at 2 pm local time Saturday, June 27, through 2 pm Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Tennessee Valley Authority Park located at TN-153 at Amnicola Highway. 

FCC licensed Amateur Radio Operators use this exercise to train themselves in provision of emergency and disaster communications on behalf of Emergency Management and other agencies in order to pass messages relating to health, welfare, and other essential needs during a widespread communications outage.
