Rossville brothers arrested in connection to stabbing incident
Justin Costlow, 22, of Rossville was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with:
- Escape
- Two counts of battery
- Two counts of 3rd degree cruelty to children
- aggravated assault
- Possession of a weapon while committing a crime
- Criminal damage to property
His brother, Jason Costlow, 23, of Rossville was also arrested and charged with:
- Two counts of battery
- Theft
- Hindering law enforcement
- Criminal damage to property
- 3rd degree cruelty to children
According to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, Justin Costlow stabbed a man over an accusation of theft.
The incident happened at a residence in the 200 block of Milford Lane.
The victim told police he came home only to find Justin Costlow and his brother Jason Costlow at the residence. According to the victim, the Costlow brothers had accused him of stealing a wallet. The victim told police both men had entered his home without permission and ransacked the place while looking for a wallet.
At some point during the confrontation, Justin Costlow punched the victim in the face then stabbed him in the hand.
The victim reportedly ran to a neighbors house for help with one of the Costlow brothers running behind him.
A witness told police that she was pulling into the neighbors drive way with her children when she noticed the victim running towards her and yelling that he had been stabbed. She also told police that Justin Costlow came into the yard running after the victim.
A neighbor told police the victim ran into her home with blood pouring from his hand. When Costlow approached her home, she retrieved her gun and told him to get off her property.
The victim was later transported to Erlanger Medical Center.
Justin Costlow is no stranger to trouble. According to a WDEF criminal background check, Costlow has been arrested numerous times in Whitfield County and once in Hamilton County within the last three years. Previous charges include:
- Probation violations
- Bail jumping and leaving the state
- Assault
Jason Costlow has also had several run-in’s with law enforcement. But most of his previous charges appeared to have been minor.
