Gestamp Announcement Details

Chattanooga (WDEF) – The Spanish auto parts company, Gestamp, announces a major expansion in Chattanooga.

They will expand their cold-stamping operation and add a new, high tech hot stamping and chassis component facility to assist VW make the new V-SUV platform.

It brings 510 jobs, up to 550 in 2 years.

The hot stamping facility will be Gestamp’s first in the world, creating a lighter & safer vehicle body that will also improve gas mileage.

The expansion of the Chattanooga 1 facility begins in July.

Construction of the new plant next to the current Volkswagen plant, begins in August.

They promise to be ready for Volkswagen’s new production of the SUV in 18 months.

Gestamp was founded in 1958 in Spain.

It now operates 100 plants in 20 countries.

50 of them now make Volkswagen components.

They were one of the first suppliers to build in Chattanooga in 2009 for the Volkswagen production here.
