Two Civil War sites in Hamilton County to receive funding for preservation
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Wars Commission has awarded grants to preserve key Civil War battlefield sites in Hamilton County.
This funding is part of the Civil War Sites Preservation Fund (CWSPF) for the 2025 fiscal year.
This year, $1,935,250 in grant funding was distributed across the state, including allocations for Hamilton County battlefields:

American Battlefield Trust received an additional $125,250 to acquire 30.7 acres at the Wauhatchie Battlefield, bringing total funding for the site to $469,500.

American Battlefield Trust also secured $22,500 for the purchase of 0.46 acres at the Chattanooga Battlefield.
These grants contribute to the preservation of historically significant battle sites, ensuring their protection from development and maintaining their cultural and historical integrity.
Since its establishment in 2013, the CWSPF has allocated more than $20.3 million in matching funds to safeguard over 1,100 acres of Tennessee’s Civil War history.
