Chattanooga police investigating self-defense claim in fatal Towerway Drive incident
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) is investigating a possible self-defense claim in connection to a homicide that occurred Monday evening.
Officers responded to a person shot call in the 3000 block of Towerway Drive around 6:21 p.m. on April 7, 2025.
Upon arrival, officer a found a 44-year-old man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Officers also found a 51-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle.
Chattanooga Fire Department and Hamilton County EMS responded to assist.
The 44-year-old man was transported to a hospital, while the 51-year-old man died at the scene.
According to CPD, preliminary findings indicate that the 51-year-old shot the 44-year-old, who then struck him with a vehicle.
The surviving individual has claimed self-defense, and the Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances.
Police are working closely with the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues.
