Calhoun officer shot at during domestic call at Buc-ee’s, turns into deadly vehicle pursuit
UPDATE (4/17/2025): The suspect involved in a vehicle pursuit in Whitfield County early Thursday morning is believed to have also shot at officers at the Bucee’s in Calhoun.
Officers with the Calhoun Police Department (CPD) responded to 601 Union Grove on a domestic call.
Upon arrival, a male suspect shot at an officer.
The suspect then stole a vehicle and fled the scene.
CPD says there’s no current danger to the public, and that this investigation is ongoing.
WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Authorities were involved in a vehicle pursuit overnight in Whitfield County.
At 3:45 a.m., April 17, 2025, deputies with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) were made aware of a “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) for a suspect in a stolen vehicle possibly driving on I-75 northbound.
According to WCSO, the BOLO also indicated that the subject who had stolen the vehicle had fired a weapon at authorities in Gordon County.
Deputies located the vehicle on Chattanooga Road near exit 336 and attempted a traffic stop.
The suspect failed to comply, and a pursuit was initiated.
During the pursuit, the suspect discharged a weapon at authorities several times from the vehicle.
Authorities didn’t return fire, and kept pursuing the vehicle.
After three miles, the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
When deputies approached the vehicle, they found the suspect had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The suspect’s identity will not be released at this time.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is assisting with the investigation.
