Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in Tellico Plains

MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A traffic stop led to two arrests after authorities discovered drug paraphernalia.

On Monday, May 19, 2025, deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) conducted a traffic stop in Tellico Plains after seeing a suspect in a vehicle with an active arrest warrant.

During the traffic stop, the suspect consented to a search of their vehicle.

Deputies discovered various illegal items and drug paraphernalia including methamphetamine and xanax.

According to MCSO, the driver and passenger in the vehicle were arrested and taken into custody.

Charges include the following:

  • Possession of Schedule II Methamphetamine (for resale)
  • Possession of Unlawful drug Paraphernalia
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Simple Possession (Sch IV Xanax)
