Rate freeze enacted for Georgia Power customers

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) —  Georgia Power customers can expect to save some money over the next three years.

The Georgia Public Service Commission has announced they are freezing rate increases over the next three years.

This will affect Georgia Power’s customers across most of our northwest Georgia counties.

We spoke with the Commission’s Vice Chairman Tim Echols, who is currently running for reelection for that position in the Republican primary.

He says this decision will save customers up to 10 percent in electricity costs over the next three years.

“Groceries have risen about 25 percent since 2020. Think about the car prices and other things. Everything went up, and it’s unrealistic for people not to think electricity and gas will go up, of course it’s gone up. Everything else in your life has gone up…We’re going to move forward by protecting our residential rate payers and existing customers while building out our grid and transmission and doing the things we need to do to prepare for the future.”

-Tim Echols, Vice Chairman of the Georgia Public Service Commission

The primary for the special election for the Georgia Public Service Commission is on June 17th, 2025 and early voting begins next Tuesday.
