National Weather Service confirms EF-0 tornado touched down in Monroe County
UPDATE (5/30/2025): The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed a tornado touched down in Monroe County Friday morning.
Around 8:36 a.m. May 30, 2025, an EF-0 tornado touched down near the Loudon/Monroe County line.
The NWS Morristown stated in their preliminary report that the tornado was on the ground for two miles, and sustained maximum winds of 85 miles per hour.
They say additional information will be released later regarding this weather event.
MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is responding to potential tornado damage in Sweetwater.
Several homes were impacted by the storms.
Photos from THP show a camper overturned, insulation tangled in wire fences, and debris scattered across the area.
According to Monroe County Emergency Management (MCEM), four people were injured and transported to the hospital for further treatment.
THP reports that the damage may have been caused by either a tornado or straight-line winds.
Troopers are working alongside local agencies to assess the damage and support the community.
The destruction appears to be isolated near Holt Road and New Hope Road.
THP is urging drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
