GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  The children of a man who died in custody are reportedly filing a lawsuit against Grundy County, its sheriff and officers.

The lawsuit claims that Ronnie Ledbetter ran off the road a year ago and hit a pole.

He was unconscious in his vehicle, when first responders shattered his window and tried to place a neck collar on him.

The suit says Ledbetter was disoriented and fought EMS.

It says that when deputies arrived, they beat and tazed him.

He died later at the jail.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), Ledbetter assaulted first responders by kicking and spitting blood on them.

The TBI investigated and cleared the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office of any criminal wrongdoing.

As of today, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office has not been formally served with any lawsuit
