Two arrested in Walker County after animal welfare check
WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Two people were arrested after authorities found several emaciated animals following a welfare check.
Walker County Animal Control received a complaint about multiple horses that appeared to be malnourished.
When they arrived on the property, an investigation was launched into this complaint.
According to Walker County, several animals on the property were emaciated and weren’t provided with enough feed to sustain a healthy body weight.
Authorities also found that some of the animals were missing fur, had open leg wounds, and inflamed skin.
A veterinarian came to the property to evaluate the situation.
The veterinarian determined some of the animals were in pain, and the conditions they were suffering from were due to neglect.
The owners agreed to surrender the animals to the county.
Officers removed four horses, three donkeys, two mini-horses, two pigs, one rabbit, and multiple chickens and goats.
The animals that were in the most severe condition were taken to TMMA Farms & Sanctuary for treatment.
The rest of the livestock were placed with a rescue.
The owners, Raul and Belinda Rodriguez are currently facing several charges.
Walker County says Raul stands accused of 12-counts of animal cruelty, and Belinda faces 11-counts of animal cruelty.
