CARTA updates plans to modernize transportation network

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- CARTA gave an update on its plan to modernize its transportation network.

They say the goal is to have multiple routes that have a frequency of serving select routes at least every 15 to 30 minutes.

Some of the heaviest corridors include Brainerd Road and Broad Street.

CARTA wants to create new structures called mobility hubs which would be their signature bus stops.

They say these would be located near community centers and libraries, one example being the Eastgate Public Library.

“It has a shelter for our riders. Bike rentals. Covers that people can get use to get out of the elements. Real time information, and these are the type of resources that we want to put out in the community for both riders and bus operators as a whole, so 33 of those,” said CARTA CEO Charles Fraizer.

CARTA also wants to build several rising platforms to serve as new stops with bus only lanes.

They aim to implement these changes through at least 2028.
