High-speed pursuit through Dekalb and Jackson counties ends in arrest
HENAGAR, Al. (WDEF) — A high-speed chase through Dekalb and Jackson Counties ended with an arrest.
On Monday, June 16, 2025, a Dekalb County Deputy tried to stop a gray Chevy Tahoe on County Road 85 near County Road 112 in Henagar.
The vehicle had no license plate and was speeding.
The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Nathaniel Kyle Toney of Ider, refused to stop, prompting a pursuit.
Toney reportedly drove recklessly through several county roads—including County Roads 112, 116, 616, and 122—with speeds topping 100 miles per hour.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), deputies briefly lost sight of the vehicle, but Sylvania Police spotted it again.
As the chase continued, more law enforcement agencies joined in.
DCSO says Toney ran stop signs, tried to ram patrol cars, and put the public at serious risk.
Near the intersection of Highway 75 and County Road 122, officers attempted a PIT maneuver to prevent Toney from reaching the highway.
Although forced off the road, Toney regained control, damaged nearby property, and attempted to hit a deputy’s vehicle before fleeing again.
The pursuit crossed into Jackson County, where Toney eventually crashed at the intersection of County Roads 122 and 59.
He was taken into custody at the scene.
Inside the vehicle, deputies found drug paraphernalia.
Toney now faces several charges, including:
-
Felony Attempt to Elude (Class C Felony)
-
Attempted Assault 2nd Degree (Class D Felony)
-
Reckless Endangerment (Class A Misdemeanor)
-
Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor)
Authorities also issued multiple traffic citations.
Toney was reportedly driving on a revoked license.
No injuries were reported in the chase.
