Community Church Holds Prayer Vigil
Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – In the wake of Thursday’s tragedy, a lot of people feel scared and desperate for answers and hope.
So one downtown church stepped up, opened their doors to the city, and held a prayer vigil to provide a little peace in the storm.
Redemption Point Church held a vigil Thursday night at 7, with doors open to the entire community.
So if you needed a message of hope this chapel on Bailey Avenue had just what you needed.
"Our community is great the way it is," said Jennifer Keylon who is the director of outreach ministry. "And we cannot let this define us no matter what any kind of news outlet, national news or any news outlet is saying. We need to be who we are and keep going forward."
A message to stay strong and not cave to terror was the focus.
People of all ages filled the pews to hear lead pastor Kevin Wallace say to retaliate…only with prayer.
"I hope that people in the community who do have love and do have community ties and community events, they will keep doing those and not step back in fear," said Keylon.
Most of the attendees weren’t even Redemption Point church members but people from the community seeking answers.
"Actually we were surprised about 75 percent of the people coming in were not members of our church," said Keylon. "They were members of the community and that’s what the event is about. People coming together in prayer."
