MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A former Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) corrections officer was arrested for bringing contraband into the jail.

On June 21, 2025, MCSO Transition Coordinator informed Sheriff Tommy Jones of a bible that was given to him to bring to a specific inmate.

After further inspection, authorities found Suboxone, a Schedule 3 narcotic, concealed in the book.

MCSO said four individuals were involved in the distribution of this narcotic within the Monroe County Jail.

The group had been successful once prior to this investigation.

On June 23, at 4:30 p.m., former MCSO corrections officer Joshua Duncan was terminated and arrested.

“No one is above the law.  We hold our officers to the highest standards, and when those standards are violated, accountability is not optional.  This termination and arrest reflects our commitment to transparency, integrity, and public trust.”

-Tommy Jones, Monroe County Sheriff

Duncan and the three current inmates involved are being charged with Conspiracy to Introduce Contraband Into a Penal Facility.
