State Election Registry sides with Reneau in mailer case

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF)- A Tennessee election board has sided with a Hamilton County state representative in an election complaint case.

Representative Michele Reneau filed the complaint with the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance.

This is due to a series of political mailers that painted her as a conspiracy theorist during the 2024 elections.

These were funded by a political organization group called Citizen Engagement Forum.

The violation that Representative Reneau is alleging is that this group did not properly register to be a political action committee in the state of Tennessee.

She told the Election Registry that this case is important to maintain election integrity.

Rep. Reneau said, “What I would hope anyway is that, we want them to follow the rules. Particularly in this case there were a lot of untrue things said, and I know races can get ugly, but I would just like folks to follow protocols so we know who is spending money.”

Citizen Engagement Forum proposed a $2,500 settlement to end the case.

The Election Registry rejected that settlement, and the case is still pending.
