Vols Quarterback Josh Dobbs Defining the Leadership Role
When you look at Josh Dobbs class schedule, it’s hard not to be impressed. Besides his demanding engineering classes, the Vols quarterback is also pursuing a minor in business because one day, he wants to own his own company.
What the Vols say about Josh Dobb would be the envy of any political candidate.
Said head coach Butch Jones,"Our players believe in him."
Said linebacker Curt Maggitt,"Dobbs is a contagious guy."
Said defensive back Cam Sutton,"He’s the backbone of our team. It’s as simple as that."
Said Dobbs,"My goal is to be the best quarterback I can be every time I step on the field."
And Coach Jones can see Dobbs working to be his best.
"There were many days in the spring time. It would be 10:30 or 11 o’clock at night. I would be going home, and I was like, what are the lights on in the indoors for? I’d walk out there, and there he is working out on his own."
Dobbs doesn’t have to look far to see his inspiration for hard work.
"My mom is actually in a wheelchair. She suffers from a disease that she has had since I was five. Obviously growing up, I was young when this first happened, but just seeing how she carries herself everyday. And how she’s still motivated to do all the things that she loves to do. Just seeing her demeanor everyday, and how she continues to push me everyday to be the best person I can be definitely drives me for sure."
Dobbs is certainly a driven athlete on the field and in the classroom with his aerospace engineering studies.
Reporter-"Butch Jones joked that he thought Josh Dobbs was going to try to fly the plane down here today for SEC Media Days. Can he start talking to you and really just talk above your head sometimes, given what he’s majoring in?"
Said Sutton,"Yeah, he has his intellectual moments where we listen to him talk, and we don’t know what he’s talking about."
Said Jones,"And so I went through their GPA’s. So the kids started razzing Josh until I made him stand up and give him his schedule of the classes he had, and the floor went silent because I think half of our team had no idea what he was even talking about."
