Driver crashes into pole after hitting patrol car on Riverside Drive

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A dangerous scene played out on Riverside Drive in Chattanooga around 7:45 p.m. Monday night.

A police officer saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and tried to make a traffic stop.

According to investigators, the driver sideswiped the patrol car, then drove straight across Riverside Drive and hit a pole.

Four people were in that car, and they all took off running,

Officers quickly found three of them, including the driver.

Joseph Estes is being charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Vandalism/Malicious Mischief
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Evading Arrest
  • Improper Passing
  • Driving Under the Influence

An ambulance did show up on scene, but we don’t have an official word on any injuries.
