Second student charged in connection with gun recovery at East Hamilton High School

UPDATE:  A second juvenile has been charged after a gun was recovered from a car at East Hamilton High School.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announced this Thursday afternoon.

The HCSO says the second student is being charged with the following:

•  Possession of a Weapon on School Property
•  Possession of Stolen Property


OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A student at East Hamilton High School (EHHS) was arrested after authorities discovered a stolen gun.

On the morning of Wednesday, August 20, 2025, EHHS’s School Resource Deputy (SRD) found a suspicious vehicle in the school’s parking lot.

Upon further investigation, the SRD found a juvenile student who had no parking tag or vehicle registration.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the SRD detected the odor of marijuana, and searched the vehicle.

The SRD located a stolen pistol and loaded high-capacity magazine during the search.

The HCSO said the 16-year-old refused to cooperate with the search and was handcuffed at the scene.

The student was then arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.

The juvenile is facing the following charges:

  • Resisting Stop/Frisk/Halt/Arrest/Search
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Firearm on School Property
  • Theft
