Coaches Corner
“It wasn’t what we had envisioned, but the guys fought really hard. There’s a lot golf ahead. This is a big event, but we’ve got plenty of other big events that we’re going to play in, so this is really important for us to learn as we go. I think that having eight guys play this week, including all three freshmen, it’s a great opportunity to really see that we can be just as good as them. We just need to clean up a couple things, so I think it really kind of helps us get on track.” – Coach Blaine Woodruff
Breakdown
- The Mocs opened with 300 playing with Oklahoma and Vanderbilt.
- It was a tough opening nine holes making the turning at 10 over. The starters had just two birdies over that stretch.
- The Mocs bounced back to shoot two over on the back including playing the closing holes at 2 under.
- Griffin Law had the low morning round with a 1-over 73. Evan Rogers added 75 followed by a pair of 76s from Camden Braidech and Ward Harris.
- The second 18 saw a better start with three birdies among the group. The turn had the group at 9 over before another battle back. They shot even on the back for the 297.
- Rogers had the Mocs low 18 of the afternoon with 71. Thad Whitfield and Braidech contributed 75s with another 76 by Harris.
- +19 on the front and +2 on the back for the day.
- Rogers continues to excel on back nines for the season. He shot 4 under today. For the season, he’s 13 over on the front over five cards and 15 under on back nines. That’s an average of 33.
- Law had wild ride. His opening 73 included three birdies and four bogeys balanced by 11 pars. Kind of a normal, ho hum, solid kind of day. That changed in the afternoon. He was 1 under through three before going bogey-bogey-par-bogey-quad over the next five holes. Law turned that frown upside down with four straight birdies and five in six holes to get back to 1 over. However, a double at 15 was followed by bogeys at 16 and 18. He led the Mocs with nine birdies matching his total from the opening 54 holes of the season.

Final Thought
“I don’t have to worry about that with any of these guys. They eight that are here and even the two guys that aren’t. They’re gonna fight until the end. These are good teams, and this is a good test. We just got exposed a little bit today. We’ve got a great chance tomorrow. I think it’s going to play a little bit harder so post a number and see if we can move up the board a little bit.” – Woodruff on the group’s resilience
