Chattanooga firefighters put out fire in school caused by small refrigerator
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Crews with the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) put out a small refrigerator fire inside a school Thursday morning.
On September 25, 2025 at 6:27 a.m., crews responded to Avondale Head Start at 2302 Ocoee Street.
911 received reports from a maintenance employee at the school that fire alarms were going off and smoke was visible in the building.
Upon arrival, crews saw nothing visible from outside the building.
After making entry, crews found smoke and a fire on the second floor.
The CFD said after a quick attack, the fire was under control by 6:40 a.m., and ventilation was started to remove smoke from the structure.
Investigators say the fire was started by a small refrigerator in a large office.
No injuries resulted from the fire, but the hallway did receive some smoke and water damage.
