Mocs Lead the SoCon in Rushing Heading Into League Play Against the Citadel
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Chattanooga Mocs kick off SoCon play Saturday as they entertain the Citadel.
UTC enters conference action as the top rushing team in the SoCon.
The Mocs have churned up nearly 900-yards rushing in four games.
Said head coach Rusty Wright:”We want to run the football. There’s know question about that. That’s part of our DNA.”
That run DNA was even on display against third ranked Tarleton State.
UTC bludgeoned the Texans with 292 yards rushing.
Said Wright:”Last week we weren’t physically better than that bunch. Our guys did a good job of putting hats-on-hats and going with creases. When you’ve got a quarterback that runs, that changes things a little bit.”
In their last two games, Chattanooga has averaged. Averaged a staggering 8 yards a carry.
Reporter:”You got to like your chances when you keep doing this.”
Said Wright:”Yeah. I really like my chances if we can do that. It’s going to be hard to do because people are eventually going to stop you and do something else.”
Quarterback Camden Orth already has a 100-yard rushing game this year.
Said Wright:”It creates 11-on-11, which is hard on a defense because everybody has to be accounted for.”
Said offensive lineman Aidan Donald:”I’ve never had a quarterback who is just so adamant about getting the job done and doing whatever he needs to do to be successful.”
Even if the Mocs wanted to dial back Orth’s rushing carries, there’s still plenty of options in the backfield.
Said linebacker Amanuel Dickson:”They have a good variety. We have speed guys. Power back like Ryan (Ingram) and then Journey (Wyche) is a mix of all three. Really diverse.”
Said Wright:”You see two or three guys that are averaging 85 or 95 yards a game last two or three games. They’re doing something. Doing something right. The yards start piling up.”
Mocs and the Citadel kick at 6pm Saturday at Finley Stadium
