Rabies Vaccine Bait – United States Department of Agriculture

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Signal Mountain Police Department said our region will be getting some help to protect people and pets from the threat of rabies, particularly from raccoons.

Low flying airplanes and helicopters will be dropping off oral vaccination baits between October 14th and 30th.

The baits will be dropped in such a way to avoid roadways, structures, large bodies of water, etc.

If a bait is found, it is recommended to leave it alone and let wildlife find it.

The baits are not harmful to pets, however if a large quantity of them are ingested, it could cause temporary stomach upset.

Tennessee counties including Hamilton, Bradley and Marion are on the list to receive these.

More information about the baits and what they look like can be found on the U-S-D-A’s Wildlife Services’ website or Tennessee Department of Health.
