Local Actor Turns Pain into Purpose
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Following Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, one Chattanooga man is carrying the message of hope forward.
Lorenzo James Darden Jr. is a two-time suicide survivor, actor, and mental health advocate.
Known for his appearances on Oxygen, TV One, Prime Video, and Tubi, Darden’s most impactful role might be the one he’s playing off-screen, helping others realize they are not alone.
He says social media first became an outlet for him to cope with depression and grief.
But as he began to share his story, he discovered that thousands of others were experiencing the same struggles.
His openness not only helped him heal but also gave hope to people who felt seen for the first time.
A father of children himself, Darden says part of his decision to keep going came from wanting to be present for them.
Instead of leaving them abandoned, he wants to guide them through life and show them that even in dark times, there is strength in choosing to stay.
With nearly 200,000 followers across platforms, Darden now uses his reach to encourage men to speak openly about mental health.
He hopes to break the stigma and remind people everywhere: “Your life matters.”
