Man arrested for DUI and vehicular homicide after crash on Gunbarrel Road

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Police have arrested a man for hitting two pedestrians with his truck and putting two juveniles in danger while driving under the influence.

One person died and another was severely injured.

32-year-old John Boyd was arrested on charges including DUI and vehicular homicide.

The crash was reported Sunday night around 9:15 p.m. at 2000 Gunbarrel Road.

Police say a man and woman ran out of gas and were stopped on the side of the road with their hazard lights on.

That’s when a Dodge 1500 hit them and crashed into their Jeep Wrangler.

The 27-year-old male victim died at the scene. The 27-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with traumatic injuries.

Two juvenile passengers who were in the Dodge were also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

After police investigation, Boyd was arrested on several charges and taken to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.

His charges include:

  • RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT
  • VEHICULAR ASSAULT
  • VEHICULAR HOMICIDE
  • DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
  • RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT (CHILD)
  • RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT (CHILD)
  • OPEN CONTAINER LAW
  • DRIVERS TO EXERCISE DUE CARE
