Local Barber Shop Donates to Families of Fallen Five
White Oak Barber Shop on Dayton Boulevard has served the public since 1932.
The old-fashioned shop has been a favorite among local military for years so White Oak only felt it natural they hold a fundraiser for the families of our fallen five.
"My brother in law was in there," said Moore. "He’s a Marine. My husband is retired from the army. I’m a huge supporter of all of the military so it makes me feel good that we can really give back and help them out when they need it."
One hundred percent of proceeds from Sunday’s haircuts went straight to the victims families and all staff volunteered their time.
Even active duty personnel came in to get a cut…and donate.
"For the families, in the wake of the tragedy, they need all the love and support we can offer them," said Jeremy Bankston who is a staff sergeant in the National Guard. "It’s a huge deal. It’s incomprehensibly huge that we get out here and do this."
Chattanooga has really come together to show their support for these heroes.
"Just the response we have, the clients, giving donations all week," said Moore. "It’s been very emotional in here."
Five men who were just doing their job…but a job that required such sacrifice.
"Noone really understands the sacrifice that a lot of people go through just a soldier and marines day to day interaction," said Bankston.
As the families – and city – grieve and heal, businesses like White Oak Barber Shop continue to step up with their donations of time and treasure.
