Teacher Dances For Nearly Six Days Straight To Break Guinness World Record

Fourth-grade teacher Carrie Swidecki holds the Guinness World Record for longest overall video game marathon after dancing for over 138 hours playing Just Dance in 2015. The 49-year-old has broken 13 dance-related records since 2011 and earned a spot in the International Video Game Hall of Fame. Her competitive dancing journey began in 2000 when she encountered Dance Dance Revolution at an arcade. “I quickly died after 10 steps and some guy came up to me and pointed at me and said, ‘You suck’ because I was a woman and obese,” Swidecki recalled. She returned daily to practice, placed third in a tournament, and lost 75 pounds. “Age is truly just a number. The impossible is possible if you have the courage to chase your dreams,” she told Guinness. Swidecki trains 45 hours weekly and plans to compete in the 2027 Olympic Esports Games at age 51.
