The Spanish town of Terrassa in north-eastern Catalonia has paused black cat adoptions during the Halloween season. From October 6th to November 10th, local shelters will not approve fostering or adoption requests for black cats. Officials say the move aims to protect the animals from harm or use in “rituals.” Deputy Mayor Noel Duque told broadcaster RTVE that adoption requests for black cats often rise around Halloween. He said the restriction helps prevent impulsive or trend-driven adoptions and any “macabre practices.” Terrassa has more than 9,800 cats, with about 100 in the town’s adoption centre, including 12 black ones.
