Florida Line Cook Charged With Stealing Restaurant’s Secret Recipe Books
Carlos Francisco Gottberg Marquez faces theft of trade secrets charges after confessing to stealing three recipe books from Mordisco Miami restaurant in Doral, Florida. The Venezuelan and Caribbean fusion restaurant discovered missing cookbooks on October 20 and contacted police. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Marquez taking two books. Police arrested Marquez at his second job at Shoma Bazaar food hall, where he told authorities in Spanish, “It’s in my bike,” and produced one cookbook from his moped’s storage compartment. Marquez admitted stealing the books and told police he intended to learn the recipes for use at another restaurant. The remaining two cookbooks were recovered from his home. A judge granted Marquez pre-trial release with $2,500 bond, ordering him to avoid Mordisco Miami.
