Bob Ross Paintings Fetch Over $600,000 At Charity Auction

Three Bob Ross paintings sold for more than $600,000 at a Bonhams auction in Los Angeles on Tuesday, far exceeding pre-sale estimates of $50,000. The works were part of 30 Ross paintings being sold to support public television stations facing federal funding cuts. “Winter’s Peace,” painted during a 1993 episode of The Joy of Painting, brought $318,000 from a phone bidder. “Home in the Valley,” also from 1993, sold for $229,100, while “Cliffside” fetched $114,800. Three additional Ross works will be auctioned January 27th, with more sales planned for New York and London. All proceeds benefit American Public Television stations, particularly smaller rural outlets. (Story URL)
