Supermarket Guru Report for August 3rd

Circle B Ranch, LLC Big John’s Homemade BBQ Sauce is a MISS.
I’m sorry, but this is one of the worst BBQ sauces I’ve tried. Too sweet. Tastes too much like ketchup (which by the way is the first ingredient) and for $6 I would expect a lot more. 35 calories per 2 tablespoons with 230 mg of sodium and 3 grams of sugars. The ingredient list is a clean one, and remember that you always want to add a sauce with sugars after the meat is cooked, otherwise the sugars will burn. Retails for $5.99 for 16 oz. Total score is 75.

Among Friends Darcy’s Delish Old Fashioned Cookie Mix Chocolate Chip is a HIT.
You’ll need an egg, 2 teaspoons of vanilla and 1/3 cup soft unsalted butter and an oven. Bake for under 9 minutes and your kitchen and taste buds will be overjoyed. These gluten-free chocolate chip cookies are really good. They are the soft style cookies and the chips are very flavorful. 2 cookies – about one inch round and 1/2" high is 130 calories, with 9 grams of sugars. One bag makes about 30 cookies. I do wish it came in a reseal able bag though when I don’t’ want to make the whole batch at once. Retails for $5.99 for 14 oz. (Makes about 30 cookies). Total Score is 87.

Positive Energy Pure Juice + Natural Caffeine Orange is a HIT.
Finally an energy drink without tons of ingredients that you don’t want. Just juice and caffeine from unroasted green coffee beans – no other ingredients. One bottle contains 150 mg. of caffeine, is 140 calories with 3 grams of protein and 25 grams of naturally occurring sugars from the OJ. So either have this, or your coffee – but both together might make you a little jittery. Certified gluten-free. I would like a tiny bit of pulp in the juice, but I am being picky. Retails for $1.99 for 10 oz. Total Score is 91.

Nature’s Path Qi’a Superfood Snack Bars Nuts & Seeds & Sea Salt is a HIT.
Look at these ingredients! Taste these ingredients! Delicious and satisfying. Chia, hemp, coconut with cashews, almonds, peanuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seed, yay! Gluten free, one bar is 180 calories, 8 grams of fat, 6 grams of sugars and 6 grams of protein. This is not an energy bar – it is a super food bar. Well done! Retails for $1.79 for 1.3 oz. Back to the Roots Cereal Organic Stoneground Flakes is my PICK OF THE WEEK!
You’ll love the cereal, the package, the nutrition, the ingredients and the company. Wow! Companies like this are the future of the food world. Just 3 ingredients – 100% stoneground whole wheat, organic cane sugar and sea salt. 1 cup is 160 calories, 5 grams of sugars and 6 grams of protein. The package even lists the ingredients of the packaging itself. The ultimate in transparency and sustainability. Send them a photo and they donate a box of cereal to an elementary school! And this is one delicious cereal! Retails for $4.99 for 11 oz. Total Score is 98.
