Tommy Lee’s Safe From Sex Tape Scandal Sells At Auction For $2,560

A safe containing Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson’s notorious sex tape has sold at Julien’s Auctions for $2,560, falling short of its $5,000 to $7,000 estimate. Lee wrote on the safe calling it “unsafe,” referencing its troublesome history. Electrician Rand Gauthier stole the safe from the couple’s Malibu home after their 1995 honeymoon, claiming Lee owed him $20,000. The safe held expensive watches, diamond jewelry, and Anderson’s white wedding bikini. Gauthier, a former adult film performer, used industry connections to distribute the recording online, creating the first viral celebrity sex tape on the internet. Lee and Anderson sued a distribution company but received no compensation when it filed bankruptcy. Auction proceeds will benefit multiple charities, according to the auction house. (Story URL)
