Supermarket Guru Reviews for August 10th
Qarnosa Cocobanana Banana and Coconut
Just banana, sugar and coconut pureed into a small 80 calorie bar that will remind you of one of those soft fruit bars your grandmother used to have. There are 20 grams of sugars. The texture is like a banana and there are bits of coconut you can taste. What’s disappointing is the taste – it’s really bland. Retails for for $2 for a 1.05 oz bar. Total score is 79.
wheycoco Premium Whey Protein & Coconut Water chocolate is a Hit.
This protein drink is a lot better than it looks or sounds. The chocolate – from organic cocoa powder adds a lot of flavor and mixes quite well with the whey and coconut water and although it has 12 grams of sugars this is not too sweet tasting. One bottle, which contains 20% coconut water, is 170 calories, 3 grams of fat, 20 grams of protein along with 270 mg of sodium. Packed with 750 mg of potassium! Retails for $2.99 for 11.2 oz. Total Score is 88.
Jerky’s Gourmet of San Diego Grass Fed Beef Jerky Ghost Pepper is a HIT.
You can smell the heat when you open the bag. One bite and then it sneaks up on you. This is hot, spicy and delicious. Made from grass fed beef, I would like to see the beef a little more tender. This jerky is not for those who want their foods mild. Besides snacking, I could see putting this on top of a salad or mixing in with scrambled eggs. one ounce, about a third of a bag, has only one gram of fat, 6 grams of protein and sugars but 410 mg of sodium. Gluten and soy free. Hey, you couldn’t eat a third of a bag without your tongue catching on fire anyway. Retails for $8.49 for 3.0 oz. Total score is 88.
Kelley’s Gourmet Stone Ground Mustard is a HIT.
When I saw this jar I didn’t think I would like the mustard. I was wrong. Nice and spicy. Hearty, not watery. Rich bold flavor. One teaspoon is 5 calories, zero fat with one gram of sugars. Their recipe has a touch of horseradish, garlic and sage which makes the difference! Enjoy! Psst – time for a new label design. Retails for $2.99 for 8 oz. Total Score is 91.
Sunshine Nut Company Cashews Roasted with a Spark of Spices is My PICK OF THE WEEK!
I happen to love cashews, but too often eating them is kinda boring. Not these! The blend of spices and garlic actually does add a bit of "spark" and is delicious. Nice slow clean burn in the back of your throat. The cashews themselves are perfect in size, nice texture and whole cashews, not pieces or halves that some brands load in their package. Imported from Mozambique. Retails for $5.99 for 7 oz. Total score is 92.
