Bowen Yang Exits ‘Saturday Night Live’ After More Than Six Seasons
Bowen Yang departed Saturday Night Live during the show’s Christmas episode hosted by Ariana Grande. Yang joined SNL’s writing staff in 2018 and became a cast member in season 45, making history as the first Chinese American cast member. He earned four Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, becoming the first featured player nominated for acting. During his farewell sketch as an airport employee, Yang became emotional and said, “I just feel so lucky that I ever got to work here.” Musical guest Cher appeared to comfort him, telling Yang, “Well, everyone thought you were a little bit too gay. But you know what? You’re perfect for me.” Yang created memorable characters including the Iceberg That Sank the Titanic and Moo Deng. SNL returns January 17, 2026, with host Finn Wolfhard and musical guest A$AP Rocky. (Story URL)
