Hospital Staff Use X-Ray Machine To Find Wedding Rings in Trash

Medical workers at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Iowa successfully recovered heirloom wedding rings accidentally thrown away by a patient. Susan Sinnwell realized the day after her hand X-ray that she had discarded a napkin containing her grandparents’ wedding rings in hospital trash. “When I threw the napkin away, it sounded funny when it hit the garbage,” Sinnwell told Iowa’s News Now. “But I didn’t think anything of it at the time.” Maintenance crews searched through 50 to 60 trash bags using metal detectors after discovering the waste had been compacted with several days of garbage. Craig Buskohl, the hospital’s imaging manager, brought a portable X-ray machine for faster searching. It took 45 minutes and 35 images to locate the rings. “It was really rewarding,” Buskohl said. “Honestly, I didn’t think we were going to find them — but we did.” (Story URL)
