Kemp announces state of emergency for Georgia ahead of potential winter storm

ATLANTA (WDEF)-  The state of Georgia is preparing for the possibility of this weekend’s winter storm.

Governor Brian Kemp says they expect the majority of the impacts to be along and north of Interstate 20, including all of our Georgia coverage area.

He says that he has declared a state of emergency for the entire state for the next week.

The Governor also states that he has five hundred members of the Georgia National Guard on standby, is suspending truck weights so needed materials can be moved quickly in response to the storm, and are deploying Georgia Power units to the potentially affected areas.

He said, “We’re just urging people to know there’s plenty of time before this hits, but just you know go ahead and fill your cars up. Make sure you got the things that you need at your house to stay warm and and hunker down in case you lose power for a day or two.”

All of our Georgia counties are under a Winter Storm Watch through the weekend.
