Wofford Stuffs UTC 81-55
(gomocs.com) – The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team struggled mightily on both ends of the floor during an 81-55 home loss to Wofford during Southern Conference action on Thursday evening inside McKenzie Arena.
Chattanooga has now dropped three-straight games and falls to 9-13 overall and finishes the first half of SoCon play at 3-6. Wofford earned its fourth-straight win and improves to 15-7 on the season and 7-2 inside conference action.
Jordan Frison (12) and Brennan Watkins (11) led the Mocs scoring attack while Tate Darner (8) and Collin Mulholland (7) followed in the scoring efforts. Darner tied a season-high in rebounds with seven while fellow freshman Josh Bowman added six boards, two assists and two blocks in 13 minutes.
Brennan Watkins knocked down a pull-up jumper to give Chattanooga an early 9-5 (15:29) lead before Wofford responded with nine-straight points to pull ahead 14-9 with 12:44 left in the half. Tate Darner capped off an 8-2 scoring run with a cutting layup to give UTC a 17-16 edge (10:12) ahead of an emphatic Wofford answer.
The Terriers ended the opening half with a 20-3 scoring run which consumed more than seven-plus minutes as the guests took a commanding 42-22 lead into the halftime break. Chattanooga was held scoreless for the final 6:42 of the half while surrendering 10 offensive rebounds and nine second-chance points in the process.
Wofford continued to apply the pressure over the early stages of the second half, now allowing Chattanooga to creep within anything closer than 18, 51-33, with 14:13 left to play. It was all Terriers down the stretch as the visitors built a lead as large as 29 in the final minutes before walking out with the 81-55 rout.
