Murray County Agencies Working To Fight Child Neglect

CHATSWORTH, GA, (WDEf)-Dale Elder, Murray County Parent,"It’s real bad the way husbands and wives do to their kids they need to take care of them and keep an eye on them all the time".

In the past month two disabled children were left caged in this Chatsworth home.

Just two weeks later this Chatsworth mother was arrested after abandoning her sick child in a hot car.

However local churches are trying to help those who can’t or won’t take care of their families.

Pastor Cochran,"Not only meth but any type of substance whether it’s alcohol, prescription drugs or other drugs, when people become addicted that consumes their time and energy and resources and their children end up being the ones who often suffer the most".

Holly Creek Baptist supports between 50 and 90 families in Murray County every month.

Pastor Cochran,"There is Hope For The Hungry and the second Thursday of each month any family or any individual can come by and nobody is turned away".

The Sheriff’s Office here in Murray County say they are doing all they can to keep children safe especially with school not starting back until after Labor Day.

Gary Langford, Murray County Sheriff,"When they are in trouble, they don’t have maybe parents, we take them in, furnish them a home to live in we have house parents that takes care of them, they make sure they are in school every day, their needs are taken care of".

We reached out to DFCS in Chatsworth but they were unavailable for comment.
